Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album
There is a land just beyond the world we know whose inhabitants do not separate sounds into different categories or music into different styles. In that land, all communication takes place through musical sound. Conversations can happen between any number of beings, layered and interwoven, whether they speak in turn or all at once. There, everyone understands all tongues spoken.
The two musicians heard on this recording have both made expeditions to that land and have learned much from its inhabitants. For these two, the musical communication of our world is not a matter of different styles or genres but of unique perspectives and approaches. From classical music, a certain rigor in training and form, and respect for historical precedent; from jazz, spontaneity in the moment and personal invention and even risk; from folk music, a resonance that rests in the bones and psyche and passes easily from one soul to another.
The music on this recording is born out of affection: for music and the magic that it makes, and for the musicians who have walked the not-always-easy path of dedication to their art. There are three mid-20th century ballads from the Great American Songbook, and three standards by giants of improvised music: John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and bassist Henry Grimes.
The recording was made one early spring afternoon in New Yorkʼs Hudson Valley, in one continuous, unedited take. We highly recommend listening to it in one sitting to receive the full import of the music.

Michael Bisio has been called a poet, a wonder and one of the most virtuosic and imaginative performers on the double
bass.
Nat Chinen writes in The New York Times :" The physicality of Mr. Bisio's bass playing puts him in touch with numerous predecessors in the avante garde, but his expressive touch is distinctive."
He has over a hundred recordings in his discography.
